About
While freelancing at Soundfirm at Fox Studios in Sydney I worked as a compositor on Strangerland (Kim Farrant, 2015). I completed clean-up compositing tasks as well as typesetting and animating the closing credits.
The movie is about a family living in the Australian Outback who’s world is shaken when their two teenage children disappear into the desert. The big thrill for me on this film was that I got to work on a shot with Nicole Kidman in it. It was also a nominee for the Grand Jury prize for World Cinema at Sundance.
Workflow
We also looked into doing some compositing using Mamba for this film, it was a little comp package that SGO were pushing as an assist tool for Mistika. Soundfirm had supplied a Mistika system for the 3D workflow on the Great Gatsby and were keen to expand that pipeline. In the end though I found it just quicker to use Mocha Pro and some After Effects for the tasks. It seems like since 2015 Mamba has gone the way of the dodo.
